Individual therapy with me

People come to therapy for different reasons, so I build our work around you. Maybe it is stress that will not let up, anxiety, depression or a big change in your life. Most of my sessions are online by secure video, for clients anywhere in California or Idaho, and you can also see me in person at my office in San Fernando.

In session I ask questions that help you put your thoughts into words, notice what you are feeling, and look honestly at the choices you feel torn about. I pair that with structured, practical tools you can use between sessions.

What therapy can help with

  • Stress and anxiety. We figure out what is driving the pressure and practice ways to feel calmer, think more clearly and move forward with a sense of direction.
  • Depression. When your mood is low or getting started feels impossible, therapy gives you support as you work toward relief and find enjoyment and meaning again.
  • Trauma. We work through what still lingers from painful experiences so you can feel safer and more in control.
  • Relationships. You learn ways to communicate and connect that make your relationships stronger. If the main strain is with a partner, couples counseling may also help.

My aim is to support your mental health and help you find fresh ways of seeing things, so you can build a life that feels worth living.

How I work

I draw on several approaches and choose what fits your situation:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you notice unhelpful thoughts and habits and change them.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches skills for handling strong emotions and getting along with the people in your life.
  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), which I am certified in, and a psychodynamic approach give trauma work a clear structure and help you accept and make sense of what happened.
  • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) looks for practical next steps on the problems in front of you, building on strengths you already have.

How to begin

Getting started is simple. Book a free consultation at a time that suits you. We will talk about what you want from therapy and whether working together makes sense. When you are ready, we set up your first session. After that we usually meet weekly and keep working toward the goals we agreed on.

Individual Therapy FAQ’s

How does individual therapy work?

We usually meet once a week, online by secure video or in person at my office in San Fernando. Together we get to the root of what is weighing on you, whether that is depression, grief, anxiety, trauma or conflict with the people around you.

Therapy can also be a steady source of comfort while you cope with a loss, a change or a situation you are learning to accept. I will explain how the process works along the way, so you always know how it connects to your goals.

I use a mix of thought, emotion and behavior-based methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) and solution-focused therapy (SFT).

How do I know that we are the right fit?

A good working relationship between you and your therapist matters, and it starts forming in the free consultation and the first sessions. Most people get a sense early on of whether they feel comfortable moving forward.

You are always welcome to ask questions about how therapy works. Along the way I will help you practice speaking up for what you need, in our sessions and in the rest of your life.

You can also stop therapy whenever you choose. You never owe anyone an explanation.

How do I know that I am making progress?

Early on, we agree on specific, measurable goals tied to real changes in your daily life, so you can tell whether things are moving.

We check in on progress every session and take a broader look monthly or quarterly.

Can I have therapy in Spanish?

Yes. I am bilingual, and you can have sessions in Spanish, English or a mix of both, whichever feels most natural to you. Sí, ofrezco terapia individual en español.
